Happy Birthday Moscow!

This weekend we finally move into our apartment - it will be so nice - since we are now onto our 4th bed since we have moved out of our house and are living out of suitcases (8 to be exact) since August 10th.
Just to get into our apartment - you must use all of these keys....We go through two doors with key pads - then our actual apartment has two doors!!! The first is wooden and you need one key to get through this door. Once through the wooden door - you get to a steel door - which you need two keys to get through. It's like Alice In Wonderland - where she keeps going through door after door. I know you are all jealous of our key cases?! Those were Jim's idea :)

Also we are taking a trip to Mega Mall Khimki and I can't wait to go to the Mega Mall this weekend!!! We are going to get a hairdryer and a few things at Ikea - the Mega Mall is outside of the city....check it out - http://www.megamall.ru/mega2/en/shops/

This weekend is also Moscow City Day - Moscow's 860th Birthday - Happy Birthday Moscow!!! We had heard that Russian's don't like to be disappointed - and heaven forbid that it may rain on Moscow's birthday. So to ensure that it will NOT rain - about a dozen Air Force jets will be watching the weather in order to dissolve the clouds. Bean had told us this the other night, but I didn't believe him....until I read this in the Moscow Times this morning while eating breakfast. http://www.themoscowtimes.com/stories/2007/08/31/003.html What can I say...TIR.

Apparently, 3.5 million people are expected to attend the festivities this weekend - we are also planning on attending a few things and will take a few pics....so stay tuned.

If Moscow weather is anything like Pittsburgh I can't imagine it being necessary to break up the clouds with airforce jets.

Sounds like you are lucky you weren't included in the illegal immigrants they've been rounding up before the birthday.

Is crime that big of a problem in Moscow that you need so many keys? I guess Jim will have to get a purse to carry all of those around.

It's fun reading, keep updating. Good luck on the big move.

Carrie, your Moscow blog is fascinating. I hope you remember me. My husband was your dad's half-brother but they never knew each other. My son, Ryan, got the two families reunited. I met you once last summer. Rich keeps me up on your adventure. It does sound like there are a lot of surprises. Russian must be difficult. I would not want to have to learn it now. I have started a blog of my new life here in Richmond. Yours inspired me. But there are not as many challenges, of course. If you want to check it out it is www.funfollowsmearound.blogspot.com
